Policy

All suppliers are requested to fully comply with Tenneco Automotive's policies and procedures regarding freight routing and documentation. The selected transportation modes shall be appropriate for the movement of the supplier's product, complying with national and international transport and safety regulations.

During transport loads must be secured in such manner that shipments arrive intact and in good condition. Tenneco reserves the right to refuse loads if the consignment is deemed unsafe to off load or store.

Logistics & Material Protocol

All details of logistics arrangement & obligation between supplier and Tenneco plants (regarding materials ordering, communication, delivery, time slots, locations, transport, loading/unloading, packaging, labels, shipping documents, cross-docking, warehousing, safety stocks, consignment commitment, import/export & customs arrangement, contacts, etc.) are agreed and documented in “Tenneco Inbound Logistics & Material Protocol”. Protocol agreement shall comply with the logistics & material requirements as stated in “Tenneco Standard RFQ Guidelines & Requirements”, and shall not supersede Tenneco POs or PO Terms & Conditions.

Each protocol is specific to the relation between a supplier location and a Tenneco’s receiving plant. It is also part of Tenneco’s PPAP & APQP approval process, to be submitted before official PPAP approval and remained available on-line in TITAN (Tenneco’s supplier portal). Subsequent changes to any of the arrangement require the protocol to be kept up-to-date by both parties.

Existing suppliers who do not currently have a signed logistics protocol with Tenneco’s receiving plant must seek support from Tenneco to complete one without delay.

Freight routing

If freight terms are negotiated FCA/EXW, compliance with Tenneco Automotive routing instructions is mandatory. Excess freight costs due to the use of unauthorized carriers will result in an automatic charge back of freight cost differential by debit to the supplier's account.

If suppliers are responsible for transportation, suppliers must endeavor to avoid any disputes with carriers to be escalated to become disruptions, or threats of disruptions, by carriers for shipments to Tenneco. If there are such disruptions, or risks of disruptions, to Tenneco’s delivery requirement, supplier must inform TEN immediately. TEN reserves the right to mitigate such disruptions at supplier’s costs; mitigation might involve TEN arranging own transportation, or authorizing releases of stranded shipments, or premium freights, or any reasonable arrangement that release the risks of disruptions.

Suppliers shall route their deliveries to TAE plants via specific carriers for road transport, air freight, and sea freight.

Documentation

Tenneco has outlined uniform standards and common processes for the planning and review of packaging materials used. These standards are necessary to ensure general accountability for quality and maintain consistently high quality performance and continuous cost reduction. The attached Manual is effective for all production related parts that suppliers and inter-company plants deliver to Tenneco plants in Europe. The contents are guidelines to be used by all parties involved in the packaging process and describe Tenneco’s packaging requirements concerning quality, safety, handling and labeling.

These general requirements may be modified by additional requirements of the receiving Tenneco facility, to be published individually, or by specific Tenneco inter-company policies.
